Visits in 2020
I am sorry to say that all planned trips have had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus. This website will be updated when the status changes.
22nd March 2020 - Saatchi Gallery - Tutankhamun -Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh
The largest number of King Tutankhamun treasures ever to leave Egypt will be in London for an exhibition which organisers say will never happen again. It will have 150 original artefacts from Tutankhamun’s tomb, 60 of which have never left Egypt before. The objects will include a gold inlaid miniature coffin which contained the king’s liver after it was removed during the mummification process, a gilded wooden bed with carved lion feet probably made specially for Tutankhamun’s funeral and a gilded wooden shrine showing intimate scenes of royal domestic harmony. One of two life-sized guardian statues of the king, which flanked the sealed entrance to his burial chamber, will also be among the artefacts leaving Cairo for the first time.
19th April
Compton Verney:
Compton Verney was opened to the public in 2004 and has themed collections of Chinese Art, paintings from 'Golden Age' of Neapolitan art from 1600 to 1800, Northern European Art from 1450 to 1650, British Folk art and British Portraits. During our visit there will also be a special exhibition on Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472 – 1553), one of the most successful German artists of all time.
Other works on display include items by Sir Joshua Reynolds, Sir William Beechey, and Canaletto. Subjects include portraits of Elizabeth 1st, Edward VI, Henry VIII and Horatio Nelson.
